Belkyra
Belkyra injections are an innovative treatment developed to target and remove persistent fat cells under the chin. Belkyra is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a molecule naturally found in the body that aids in breaking down and absorbing dietary fat. When injected into the submental fat, Belkyra destroys the fat cells, allowing the body to naturally metabolize and eliminate them. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Belkyra effectively reduces double chins, although individual results may vary.
Treatment Details
Cost will vary depending on area(s) being treated. Schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Bredenkamp. During the consultation, Dr. Bredenkamp will discuss your skin expectations and goals and provide a treatment estimate based on your individual needs.
We schedule 60-minute appointments for Belkyra injection procedures. This allows Dr. Brendenkamp to answer all your questions and expertly educate you about your treatment.
Belkyra injections are generally safe, but like any treatment, they may have some side effects. These can include temporary swelling, pain, or redness at the injection site. These effects typically go away within a few days to a week. Some patients may also experience temporary numbness or tingling. There is minimal downtime, and most people can resume their normal activities right after the treatment. Visible results usually become noticeable within a few weeks as the body gradually removes the targeted fat cells. It may take several months to see the full results as your chin area becomes more sculpted and defined. It’s important to note that individual responses to the treatment may vary.
Maintenance care for Belkyra is generally not required, as the treatment is designed to permanently eliminate fat cells in the targeted area. However, individual responses can vary, and occasional touch-up sessions may be recommended to maintain results over time. After the initial treatment, the typical follow-up process involves scheduling a post-treatment consultation to assess your progress and discuss any concerns or additional sessions.
- Notify your provider if you have had major dental work (excluding routine cleanings) 2 weeks before/after the proposed injection procedure or if you have had any recent procedure (cosmetic, surgery, laser, or other)
- One week before treatment avoid anti-coagulants, platelet inhibitors, and NSAIDs if not medically necessary IMPORTANT: Do not stop taking any medication that has been prescribed or recommended by your doctor.
- Essential fatty acids can increase the risk of bruising. If bruising is of concern refrain from essential fatty acids for 7 days before treatment
- Please plan your appointment at least 4 weeks prior to any special occasion or event
- Please advise your medical provider with a history of allergies, medications and any changes in medical history
- Avoid alcohol consumption 48 hours before your treatment
- For men, please come to your appointment clean-shaven
- Please do not press, rub, massage or manipulate the treatment area
- For the remainder of treatment day avoid exercise or strenuous movements
- Ice the treated areas for the next 24 hours. Place the icepack on the area for 20 mins and remove for 20 mins. Repeat process as necessary
- Arnica gel applied to the area up to five times daily for two days after the treatment (optional).
- If needed, take Tylenol to decrease post treatment discomfort. Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Gingko Biloba, Flax Oil, Fish Oil, Vitamin A & E or other essential fatty acids for at least 3 days after treatment
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine, high sodium foods, high sugar foods, spicy foods and cigarettes 24- 48 hours after treatment. These may contribute to increased swelling or irritation
- Avoid vigorous exercise, sun and heat exposure for 3-5 days after treatment
- Sleep on your back with your head elevated for 3-5 days post treatment
- Avoid cosmetic treatments such as injectables, laser, ultrasound, peels, facials for 2 weeks afte treatment
- Make up may be used as long as the skin is not broken or irritated
